After more than 77 years, the owners, brothers Joel and Paul Smith, have decided to enjoy a well-earned retirement to spend time with family and pursue other interests. Their father, Oddee Smith, started his business in 1945 as Smith Gravel Service. The work crew consisted of Smith, his brother Oscar, and one truck. As the work grew, so too did Smith’s areas of operation. He eventually moved into oilfield, road, and bridge construction. Later, Smith added a gravel plant operation to the family property in the Macedonia community. The family earned a reputation as a steadfast and trusted business across Mississippi and Louisiana.
